Obituary for Margaret L. Albright (Haueter)

Margaret L. Albright (Haueter)
Margaret “Peg” Lucile Albright, 93, of Wooster, died Saturday, February 24th at West View Healthy Living Home. She passed peacefully in her sleep, with family by her side.

Daughter of Lina and Alfred Haueter, Margaret was born on June 27th, 1924, in Orrville, Ohio, to a large Mennonite family. She had 11 brothers and sisters. Though times were tight during the Great Depression, Margaret’s mother Lina instilled in her a lifelong passion for “loving thy neighbor,” leaving plates of food
on the windowsill for hungry travelers and taking Margaret to check in on homebound neighbors. As a teenager, Margaret traveled with her sisters Edna and Miriam to sing in churches all over Ohio.

On March 12th, 1947, Margaret married John Albright, honeymooning at Niagara Falls before moving to Wooster. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year. Margaret would become matriarch of her own large family, working all her life to make a warm and loving home for her 5 sons, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, raising them with her passion for justice, her warm sense of humor, her quiet strength, and her love of music. She had a keen eye for antiques, and loved bidding in auctions on behalf of Albright Antiques, a store she and John kept in Smithville. She is remembered for her commitment to many local charities, and to Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member for many years. She was also an avid patron of the Ohio Light Opera.

Margaret is survived by her husband John, her sons and daughters-in-law Jerry & Mindy, David & Joanne, Scott & Cindy, and Hans & Terry. She was loved deeply by her son Fred, who passed away in 2017, and his partner of many years, Kathy Beall Thompson. Margaret is also loved and remembered by her grandchildren: Franz, Emil, Ewen, David S., Joseph, Jonlyn, Jessica, Kara, Krista, Micah, Katrina and Nathan and her 10 great-grandchildren. To know her was to be loved by her and she will be in our hearts always.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held in the chapel at West View Healthy Living Home in Wooster, on Thursday, March 1st, at 6 PM.
