David L.. Gobert, age 71, of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born on August 20, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to Leroy and Allene (Jones) Gobert.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict from October 26, 1966 - November 25, 1968.

David married Bonna Kay Winkler on March 31, 1973 in West Jefferson, Ohio. She survives.

After moving from California to Smithville in 1972, he worked for Safar Machine Co. in Akron before retiring in 2007.

He was affiliated with the Good News Baptist Church in Smithville ; was an avid musician and also enjoyed playing the guitar; enjoyed fishing, boating, woodworking along with crafting in his machine shop; enjoyed auto body repairing and painting; he mostly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren who he enjoyed teaching what he had also learned throughout his life; and spending time with his faithful canine companion, "Dominic".

In addition to his beloved wife of the home, and his mother, Allene McKinney of Clarksville, Arkansas he is survived by his 3 daughters, Renee (Robert) Kindig of Doylestown, Ohio, Jennifer (Scott) Oberg of Parma, Ohio and Lisa (Eric) Grobmyer of Corona, California; grandchildren, Rachael, Jonathan and Elizabeth Kindig, Brooke and Kaylee Oberg, Jacob and Leah Reimonenq and Ella Grobmyer.; a sister, Debbie (Mike) Marin of Clarksville, Arkansas; a special great - nephew and a great - niece, Zachary and Alyssa Aichele.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Aichele and a step-father, Jerry McKinney.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at Good News Baptist Church in Smithville with Pastor Paul Coblentz officiating. A committal of cremains will follow at Smithville Cemetery where military rites will also take place. There will then be a time of fellowship and comfort food back at the church.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior (10:00 - 11:00a.m) to services at the church.
