Obituary for Carol J. Miller (Hartzler)

Carol J. Miller, age 92, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster following a short period of declining health.

She was born on August 14, 1927 in West Liberty, Ohio to Emmett and Cora (Book) Hartzler.

Carol married Gerald A. Miller on August 15, 1948 in West Liberty, Ohio. He went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2015.

She and her husband had been farmers while living in the Mount Gilead, Ohio area. While there, she also taught at the Johnsville Elementary School before moving to Wooster in 1974.

Carol was a member of Wooster Mennonite Church where she served in many capacities including teaching Sunday School and playing the piano. She and her husband also spent time serving with missions
work in Honduras and Puerto Rico; they also enjoyed spending their retirement years in Sarasota, FL.; she was also an avid reader and enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by her children, Gordon A. (Janet) Miller and Rollin B. Miller all of Wooster and Connie C. (Tom) Aakes of Stanton, Va.; 5 grandchildren, Evan and Alisa Miller, Joshua, Caleb and David Oakes; a brother, Emerson (Marge) Hartzler of Kansas City, MO.; sisters, Hilda Kinghorn of Lexington, Ky. and Lucy Hartzler of San Francisco, CA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Melburn Hartzler and sisters, Evelyn Kenegy and Audrey Snyder.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 7th, 3:00 p.m. at Wooster Mennonite Church with Pastor Jacob Dodson officiating followed by a time of fellowship and comfort food at the church.

A private interment will take place at a later time at the convenience of the family at Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery in Wooster.
